Hello! My name is Lynn Shake and I am the owner of Quilt ‘n Stuff. My love of sewing comes from my mom and my grandmas. I remember watching one grandma as she traced her cardboard template onto fabric before she cut them out to sew into quilts. Little did I know THAT foreshadowing! I remember waking up one morning at the other grandma’s house to find that overnight she had made me all kinds of clothes for my Barbies. I remember being so excited about them, but now I also think about all those tiny seams... I think we all know now where I get my craziness from. I don’t remember a time that my mom wasn’t sewing. Turning the tv up in the evening to hear it over the sound of her sewing machine was a common occurrence. She was always making clothes and things for me and my sisters. I still have the 3-foot Raggedy Ann she made me!

As a teen, I worked at the local five and dime in their fabric department. As an adult I worked at House of Fabrics (before it became JoAnn Fabrics) and then Ben Franklin Crafts running their soft-lines (all things fabric related) department. Fabric is my addiction. When we moved from the west coast to the mid-west, I used a lot of my fabric as packing material in boxes so my husband wouldn’t know how much I truly had!

Shortly after we moved here, I went to visit a friend who had opened her own quilt shop. BAM! The light bulb went on. This is what I want to do. Fast forward 25 years and lots of groundwork later, here we are. Thanks for listening and I hope my story and my store inspires you in some way. -Lynn
